The entry in my digital planner read “Prep PNW photo essay,” referring to the “Winter in the Pacific Northwest” series I intended to begin today for the blog.
That was last week’s plan.
I am once again reminded of Joan Didion’s opening lines in The Year of Magical Thinking:
Life changes fast.
Life changes in the instant.
Suddenly the promise of last week’s plan has lost its luster. I will feel the envisioned promise rise again, but not today.
For now, I am simply holding space for the grief, loss, and pain of the families, of the community, of humanity. I offer the above photo from Joe, appropriately named, Contemplating Heaven.
And I offer myself and this space as a container for all who mourn. If you are so moved, you can comment here, write to me directly, or just close your eyes in this moment and be present in acknowledgment of our great loss.
Namaste.
