TAROT TODAY
It's true, we'll make a better day
Just you and me
By now, you probably recognize the title and above lines are from We Are The World, the song composed by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and produced by Quincy Jones in 1985. The song was created in a joint effort to raise funds to help alleviate poverty and famine in Africa. With over forty of the most popular music artists volunteering their time and voices, the song became an instant hit generating millions of dollars for immediate relief. Royalties from the song continue to benefit the hungry in both Africa and the United States even today.
Although the song and video of the event were created long before Joe and I met, we discovered we both loved it and were moved by the lyrics and intent. Anytime either one of us came across it while scrolling on some social media feed, we played it. Once the other heard the music, we would join together to watch and sing along. (Well, Joe did. I graciously only mouthed the words to prevent my tone deaf singing voice from spoiling the moment.)
Lately various forms of the video have been cropping up for me—the “official” release and several “behind the scenes” of the rehearsal and taping. I still click through and watch each one, remembering the many times done so with Joe and feeling his presence—especially now that I sing aloud since no one is around to hear me. I sense he is trying to gently guide me along, helping me to stay on tune.
Interestingly, his niece texted me last night that she has found herself humming some popular songs from her childhood and realized they were melodies from the doo wop harmonies that Joe and his friends would sing on the streets of Brooklyn many years ago. She called them “Uncle Joe songs.” The one she kept hearing was What’s Your Name, a song popular in 1962.
I believe we receive messages from lost loved ones in the style that is consistent with who they were and in the format that makes the most sense to us as individuals. By now, you’ve probably guessed that Joe loved to sing. That he reached out to us with songs we could identify with him is no big surprise to me.
It’s the message behind the lyrics of these songs that struck a chord (yikes, a pun!) with me. Although very different genres and deliveries, the songs are about love and making a connection with others to serve the greater good. The universal message of Life.
Tarot Today’s Spread for the Collective continues that divine theme. In this spread, the cards from left to right represent energies of the past, present, and future.
9 of Air. Transition. This card represents an ending and time for change. The fruit is ripe and falling. The hive is more than full—it’s overcrowded. It’s time to move on and begin anew, bringing us to…
No. 9, Rebirth. This card of the Major Arcana signifies a turning point. Life leaps forward with new possibilities for hope fulfilled. Creation is what follows every ending. Trust that the time is right to rise up with new vigor and revitalized intention.
Witch of Earth. No, this has nothing to do with approaching Halloween. The shapeshifter-shaman Earth Witch guards the gate of Life, allowing entry only to those with the vision to serve Mother Earth. She schools us to be ready for challenge, even battle. (What, you thought changing the world for the better would be easy?) She’ll test your purpose, commitment, and courage. Those gifted with the vision will understand the wisest teacher is the one you are here to serve—Mother Earth herself. Once you’ve earned passage, you’ll be rewarded with increased courage, instinct, intuition, and unflinching commitment.
The question that arises is: Are you ready?
I’ve added the light of the love candle and stones of the first, second, and third chakras to support and strengthen your intention and resolve. Know that you are not alone. In addition to those you can see, there are throngs of unseen beings around you to support your journey.
From the song We Are The World:
When you're down and out
And there seems no hope at all
But if you just believe
There's no way we can fall
Well, well, well
Let's realize, oh, that a change can only come
When we stand together as one
